Montana Roadtrip- Yellowstone Nat'l Park

We are back from our week-long road trip through Montana! I have to admit I was more than a little nervous to pack our 3-year-old in a loaded car for many hours of driving through and around Montana but he definitely exceeded our expectations! He was an awesome little traveler and we enjoyed our time with him so much!
On Sunday we loaded loaded up my parents Highlander complete with a car top carrier and headed towards Yellowstone Park. Along the way we took several potty and snack stops....Dylan was a trooper holding it though....as well as some sightseeing stops. We made it to the town of West Yellowstone around 5:30 PM. Our first item on our list was to hit the Yellowstone Park Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center across the street from our hotel. There we were able to see two rescued Grizzlies eating their dinner and some wolves as well. At this center the animals are enclosed but it is different than a zoo because the workers do not interact with the animals and if feels like they are in the wild. After dinner out and some swimming we were all ready to rest up for a day of sightseeing on Monday.
We woke up on Monday morning to a light layer of snow and it was freezing! But we did have gorgeous blue skies and lots of sun to greet us as well. Taking off early we were able to see a lot of animals out for their morning meal. We got close to some elk at the river, buffalo grazing in the meadows as well as some mama buffaloes with their babies. The steam rising up from the geysers looked absolutely gorgeous in the cold air. It was so incredibly peaceful and beautiful!
We managed to get to Old Faithful a few minutes before it "erupted" and Dylan loved this show. However he was upset when it was over and didn't want to leave! This was one of only a few 3-year old meltdowns we encountered along our trip. We continued through Yellowstone and were able to get some mini-hikes in to see the Yellowstone Canyon, the upper and lower falls of the Madison River and Yellowstone Lake. So spectacular!
I hope that one day we can go back as a family and do some camping in the park. It is truly an amazing place of nature and beauty!
